pCloud Backup Conflict and Data Versioning

Hi guys,

One thing I have noticed is when I setup pCloud to backup my Notes folder, where SiYuan is in, it continues to give me this error.

My questions are:

  • Is this a problem, and should I be concerned about it?
  • One time, SiYuan shut itself down and said that to preserve data integrity, it mentioned something about a safe kernel. I am not sure if it was related, so it could be a concidence. However, it happened shortly after I started setting up my backups in pCloud.

Lastly, I recently noticed a database that had data in it the day before, but suddenly is empty today. I checked the version history and all of records were there yesterday, but when I randomly happen to open up this page and come across it today, the database was still there -- just with no records.

I reverted back to the previous version and it seems to have solved it, but... I'm concerned about data integrity.

Is there any way for SiYuan to throw some type of a conflict-of-interest warning if it's about to delete something by itself, and not manually initiated by the user?

    Welcome to here!

The solution to your issue can be simply summarized as refraining from using pCloud, at least while running siyuan.

Siyuan does not provide compatibility with third-party backup software, so you can continue to use it if you wish, but in that case, the security of your data will solely rely on you. Siyuan had considered ways to achieve compatibility before, but the unforeseeable data corruption was too significant. Therefore, the current measure is to exit once detected and let third-party software handle it to prevent damage.
