Issue/question: encrypted notebooks prevents option `Import Data`

I get following error:refuse to overwrite existing encrypted notebook [20260816201xxx-xxx] v3.8.7, when trying the option: Settings>App>Import Data (workspace data).

What is the current best fix to deal with this issue?:

  • Do i manually unlock encrypted notebook and delete it before importing data?
  • Do i disable option: Settings>Authentication> uncheck feature toggle

Thanks for explaining your workflow. I’ve implemented an improvement: importing Data.zip into the current workspace now offers Skip conflicts (default), Overwrite conflicts, or Cancel for encrypted notebook conflicts. This applies to both desktop and mobile.

Overwriting requires the master password and compatible encryption keys. It replaces matching files while keeping files that exist only in the current workspace.

The change is on dev: #20758. Please try it when an updated build is available and let us know how it works for your workflow.

I must caution again your conclusion, and seems like a conflict between two features Export data and Encrypted Notebook:

      • Export data (Settings>app > Export/Imprort data): This export/import should work on a single workspace (or at least how i used it till now). The Encrypted_notebook_ID breaks it, and forces to resort to cumbersome multiple workspaces. I imagine it would be even more cumbersome/difficult for mobile users to create and switch workspaces on the fly. I also highly depend on export/import to create backups and synchronize my singular workspace between multiple devices.
      • Encrypted Notebook depends on ID, but should work independant of export data.

Possible solutions: during import provide popup (or silently) to ignore/overwrite current encrypted_note with that from importing notebook. Else, i will contemplate another solution and append it here later on...

This message means the workspace already contains an encrypted notebook with the same ID, so SiYuan blocks the import to protect your existing data.

Please create a new workspace, import the Data.zip there, and unlock the imported notebook with its original master password. You don’t need to delete the existing notebook or disable encryption. Simply unlocking it won’t resolve the conflict.
